The Savage B17 FV-SR Overwatch bolt-action rimfire varmint rifle is one of a series of eight Overwatch guns, all named for their Overwatch camouflage scheme designed by Mississippi-based Mossy Oak. This scheme evokes a forest in the snow, and so presumably, that’s where it’s designed for optimal use.

In case you’re wondering, the “FV” in the name stands for “Synthetic Stock, Heavy Barrel” while the “SR” means “Suppressor Ready”. So naturally, FV-SR gun muzzles are threaded to accept a variety of suppressors.

The Savage B17 FV-SR Overwatch’s fraternal twin is the Savage B22 FV-SR Overwatch. The B17 is a 17 HMR with a 1 to 9 twist while the B22 is a 22 LR gun with a 1 to 16 twist. Both are camouflage synthetic matte stock varmint guns with short, 16.5” long button rifled matte black carbon steel gun barrels and black matte carbon steel receivers. Both also have matching 34.75” overall lengths and weigh 5.6 pounds.

These gun stocks lack factory sights, but they are drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Both guns feature fore and rear sling studs for comfortable carry.

The two also feature Savage’s AccuTrigger. The AccuTrigger system gives the gun owner the ability to adjust the trigger to his or her ideal pull. And as an important safety feature, AccuTrigger also prevents the rifle from discharging when jarred or dropped.

In order to keep the B17 FV-SR Overwatch and B22 FV-SR Overwatch relatively affordable, they omit the AccuStock or AccuFit components that feature prominently on the Savage 110, Savage 212, Savage 220 and other more expensive Savage guns.

AccuStock permits easy removal of the gun barrel while AccuFit allows precise configuration of the butt stock for optimal cheek and shoulder fit. However, the B17 and B22 have ergonomically designed stocks with a vertical pistol grip, a top tang safety and a higher comb than on some other rifles.

These rifles have a 10 round magazine. Most people like these magazines, though some have complained that they aren’t always as flawless as they would like.
