The Savage MSR 10 Long Range 10+1 direct-impingement semi-automatic rifles are a subset of the Savage MSR 10 lineup. The MSR 10s are the big, or at least more robust, members of the Savage MSR family. The other members are the generally smaller barrel and thus lighter-weight Savage MSR 15 rifles mostly for various 5.56 mm rounds.

MSR stands for Modern Savage Rifle. The series includes the MSR 10 lineup and the family of MSR 15s too. Here we focus on the MSR 10 Long Range.

The MSR 10 Long Range has three calibers: .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmore and 6.0 mm Creedmore. The Winchester variant has a 20” long barrel, 1 to 10” twist, has an overall length of 40.63” to 42.63” and weighs 9.75 pounds. The two Creedmore types weight 10 pounds, have 22” long barrels, and overall length of 43.13” to 45.13”. The 6.5 Creedmore has a 1 to 8” twist and the 6.0 mm Creedmore has a 1 to 7.5” twist. All are 5R and come with a 10 round black box magazine.

In all cases, the heavy carbon steel barrel is matte black with a Melonite QPQ finish. It is enshrouded in a black free-float M-LOK handguard permitting easy attachment of various M-LOK type accessories.

The gun comes without sights, but a full length Picatinny rail runs along the top of the handguard and upper receiver.

The gun’s forged receiver is made of the aviation industry’s lightweight 7075-T6 aluminum alloy and FDE Cerakote finished. The stock is a matte pistol grip polymer design. Fronting the barrel is a tunable muzzle brake with a 5/8”-24 TPI thread.

Bringing up the rear is a lightweight Magpul PRS Gen 3 trapezoid buttstock that’s adjustable up to 2.0” in length. It also has aluminum knobs to permit easy adjustments for cheek position and length of pull. It has a pair of M-LOK slots along the bottom to attach Picatinny rails, etc. This buttstock has a thick anti-slip rubber butt pad that can be raised for height and angled for maximum comfort and has multiple sling attachment points.

The Savage MSR 10 Long Range’s two-stage nickel-boron coated trigger is unusual. Nickel-boron coating makes it both extremely durable while simultaneously being very smooth and almost without friction, and it works in conjunction with an adjustable mid-length gas system that permits optimizing performance for different types of ammo. This firearm has a curved 30 round detachable magazine.

The outcome is a precise-firing weapon that fires small groups with little noise and relatively low recoil.
