The upscale SIG Sauer MCX Rattler Canebrake is a semi-automatic AR-15 pistol chambered for .300 AAC Blackout ammo. SIG Sauer sometimes names its guns after venomous snakes. The MCX Rattler Canebrake is no exception, and is named after a deadly large timber rattlesnake indigenous to the Southeastern United States.

The heart of the MCX Rattler Canebrake is its receiver, finished with Cerakote E190 that evokes its namesake snake. Rather than use a blowback mechanism, the MCX Rattler Canebrake uses a gas piston for operations, and there is little recoil.

The side-folding PCV (pivoting contour brace) makes the gun easily transportable in a motorcycle police officer’s saddle bag and then quickly assembled into something far more powerful and capable.

The diminutive barrel has a fast 1 to 5 twist rate. The barrel is only 5.5” long, so overall length is only 29.25”. Width is 2.8” due to the volume of the very aggressive looking space-age M-LOK style hand guard. The muzzle thread is 5/8 in - 24 tpi. The MCX Rattler Canebrake is suppressor ready for any 7.62 suppressor, but the gun comes with an inert training device that prevents flash inside the hand guard.

The Canebrake has a two-stage precision feel match trigger and a polymer grip.

The SIG Sauer MCX Rattler Canebrake semi-automatic comes with a 30 round AR-15 type magazine. The gun’s weight is only 6.5 pounds.

As an aside, SIG Sauer started as Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (or just SIG, meaning Swiss Industrial Company) in Switzerland in 1853 making railway wagons. Seven years later, it started making arms for the Swiss Army. In 1976, SIG bought Germany’s J. P. Sauer and Sohn and then changed the name correspondingly to SIG Sauer and established its American subsidiary in 1985.
