The Sig Sauer P320 modular striker-fired semi-automatic pistol is an evolution of the earlier hammer-fired Sig Sauer P250 semi-automatic. The two share many traits – both mechanical and aesthetic, and it can be hard to discern the two at first glance especially as the P250’s hammer is internal. The main aesthetic difference seems to be simply the nicely cut forward leaning slide serrations. The P250 has them only in back while the P320 has them in front and back. There’s some eye-candy here too: the P320 serrations start out shortest in front and get progressively taller toward the back.

The P320 wraps around the gun’s Firing Control Unit or FCU. This primary component is the stainless steel upper receiver/interchangeable trigger group housing key parts like the trigger, etc. Interestingly, it is actually only this component that is serialized and officially counts as the gun. But perhaps confusingly, SIG calls this the frame.

The modular architecture then permits one to swap different slides, barrels and what SIG calls the Grip Module Assembly, which one might normally consider the frame. These strong, weight-saving, Grip Module Assemblies can be had in one color (black) and four sizes: full, carry, compact and subcompact. These use the 4.7”, 3.9”, 3.9” and 3.6” barrels respectively. All four can utilize .40 S&W and 9 mm. All other than the full-size module use .357 SIG and all but the subcompact use .45 ACP.

The Sig Sauer P320 Compact is, no surprise, the compact Grip Module Assembly version of the larger P320. P320 Compact features a four-slot Picatinny rail under the recoil spring housing, finger recesses above the grip and a horizontally serrated vertical face on the trigger guard. At the back of the trigger guard is a nice undercut for increased comfort. In back is a medium beavertail. The magazine catch is reversible and slide catch is ambidextrous. The grip is textured and features a gently bulged palmswell.

The P320 Compact has a 5.8” sight radius. Its striker-fired trigger has a short-tactile reset and an impressive 6.0 pounds of trigger pull weight. Other key metrics? Width is 1.3”, height is 5.3” and overall length is 7.2”. Thanks to the weight-saving polymer Grip Module Assembly, weight with magazine is 25.8 ounces. So compared to the P250, the sight radius is slightly longer, width is .1” narrower and the gun is almost an ounce lighter.

The Compact’s four calibers have different magazine configurations. The .357 SIG and .40 S&W each come with two 13-round magazines, the .45 ACP comes with two 9-rounds magazines and the 9 mm comes standard with two 15-round magazines or with two 10-round magazines for Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey. The two 9 mm models also differ by having steel 3-dot Contrast Sights in lieu of the SIGLITE sites of the P320 Compact siblings.

At GunBroker.com, you’ll find plenty to like with the modular architecture of these engaging Sig Sauer P320 Compact semi-automatics.
