The highly acclaimed Springfield Armory Hellcat RPD (Rapid Defense Package) is a best-in-class 9mm double-stack micro-compact semi-automatic. Unboxing reveals a formidably well-equipped piece of work that includes both an 11-round pinky extension and a 13-round extended magazine. Packaging efficiency means a 3.8” threaded barrel, 1” width across the grip and 7” overall length. RDP’s height is 4.0” for the gun that grows to 4.5” with the extended magazine. Weight with the extended mag is 19.6 ounces.

The 3.8” barrel is hammer forged steel for very high quality and durability. The barrel has a 1:10” twist ratio, a .5x28 thread and a Melonite finish. Threading on to the muzzle is a removable Self-Indexing Compensator.

The slide is billet machined with grip surfaces in front and back. The slide’s profile is engaging with chamfered cuts along the front. It also gets a Melonite finish.

The RDP has high visibility sights. There’s a tritium luminescent yellow surround front sight and a white U-notch Tactical Rack rear sight. The luminescence, contrast, etc., combine to make for very fast targeting. But the real piece de resistance is the micro-sized HEX Wasp 3.5 MOA red dot optic sight that integrates with the Hellcat. The HEX Wasp is removable, and the gun comes with a seamless cover plate you can attach for when the Wasp isn’t in use.

Inside you get a dual captive recoil spring and a full-length guide rod. And underneath it, a non-proprietary accessory rail. The black polymer frame has an aggressive pyramid textured adaptive grip. Other features include an improved Gen 2 trigger, Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) and a reversible magazine release.

The two models come in all black. They differ only in that one has a low-profile (narrow) ambidextrous manual safety by the rear slide and the other doesn’t. The Springfield Armory Hellcat lineup is Made in Croatia.
