The Stoeger Coach Gun side-by-side 12-gauge, 20-gauge and .410-gauge messenger shotgun affordably evokes the Wild West. But this 20” double-barrel classic is a modern take on guns like the famous Colt 1878 Shotgun. The Colt had both 26” barrel and shorter 20” barrel “Coach Gun” versions that were easier to operate and maneuver while riding stagecoaches. Or while holding them up.
Stoeger’s lineup features classic double-trigger and fast single-trigger shotguns. Naturally, these guns are very popular for Cowboy Action shooting. You can get them in various combinations of finish and furniture. Every one of them is beautiful with elegant lines that are purposeful and modern despite the Coach Gun rubric.
There are currently eight models. All share certain characteristics beyond their 20” twin barrels. All have a brass bead front sight and come with Fixed IC and Fixed M chokes. Length-of-pull is 14.5”. Drop at comb is 1.5” and drop at heel is 2.5”, giving the stock a nicely fitting diagonal descent. Overall length is 36.5”. Now let’s cover specific models.
The 12-Gauge 2-3/4" and 3" model has A-Grade Satin Walnut and blued metal. It weighs 6.5 pounds as do the three other 12-gauge models. They are the Black-Finished Hardwood with polished nickel, A-Grade Satin Walnut and polished nickel and, finally, A-Grade Satin Walnut and blued metal with a single-trigger instead of the double-trigger on the other models.
There are three 20-guage 2-3/4" and 3" models. Each weighs 6.4 pounds. The three models are the same as the first three 12-gauges, and thus A-Grade Satin Walnut and blued metal, Black-Finished Hardwood with polished nickel and A-Grade Satin Walnut and blued metal with a single-trigger instead of the double-trigger on the other models.
The .410 has just one model. It’s the .410-gauge 2-1/2" and 3" A-Grade Satin Walnut and blued metal. It weighs 6.3 pounds.
