The Stoeger Double Defense 12-gauge and a 20-gauge tactical shotgun is a new twist on break action, short design, defensive arm with modern features coupled with affordability, reliability and ease of use. Four models cover side-by-side and over and under. For each, you get a 12-gauge and a 20-gauge choice. All have easy to maneuver 20” tactical barrels and are chambered for 2-3/4” and 3” shells.

Regardless of which you purchase, you have great features like a standard green fiber optic front sight, a tang mounted safety, 20” tactical barrels, a fast single-trigger and fixed improved cylinder chokes. Length-of-pull is 14.5”. Drop at comb is 1.5” and drop at heel is 2.5”, giving the stock a nicely fitting diagonal descent. Overall length is 36.5”, making them ideal for tight enclosed areas. These guns have extractors. So, crack open the gun, and the spent casings are readily waiting for you.

The side-by-side models have ported barrels with eight perfectly offset patterned dorsal ports. Side-by-sides also include two factory-installed Picatinny rails. One rail is under the barrels for targeting lasers, etc., while the other crests the receiver so you can mount red-dot sights.

The over and under models have three Picatinny rails! The superposed over and under barrels are flanked by one rail on either side and then the third one is atop the receiver just like on the side-by-side models.

Now let’s cover specific models.

The Side-by-Side 12-Gauge 2-3/4" and 3" weighs 7.0 pounds. Its 20-gauge version weighs 6.4 pounds. These have a synthetic stock and a trim forend with checkered grip surfaces on both. The Over and Under 12-Gauge 2-3/4" and 3" weighs 7.1 pounds. Its 20-gauge version weighs 6.6 pounds. These two have a black walnut stock and a larger, more sculpted forend that envelopes the bottom barrel’s rear. Both the forend and stock are also checkered for reassured gripping.

Regardless of which you get, you’ll see Stoeger put a lot of thought into both the design and the cosmetics. Fit and finish is excellent. And then you get matte blued surfaces for the metal parts and non-reflective matte black coverings on the hardwood forend and stock. And finally, all the way in back is a thick matte black recoil mitigating rubber pad.
