The Taurus 692 7-round cylinder revolvers offer six medium-frame models that span 2.5”, 3.0” and 6.5” barrel lengths in stainless steel or matte black finishes. These are double-action/single-action (DA/SA) revolvers that combine simple, effective design with accuracy, durability and reliability. Fit and finish are superb.

Key dimensions: all six models have a 5.66” height and 1.50” width. The overall lengths are 5.14” to 5.5” longer than the barrels. Thus the 2.5” barrel 692s are 8.0” long overall and weigh 32 ounces or a square 2.0 pounds. The 3.0” barrel 692s are 8.14” long and weigh 35 ounces. The big boy 6.50” barrel guns are 11.64” long and weigh 46 ounces!

While the 2.5” barrel guns are too short to be ported, the opposite is true of the 3.0” and 6.5” siblings. The 3.0” guns have a single trapezoidal port on each side above the muzzle. The 6.5” guns also have a single trapezoidal port above the muzzle, but that is then followed by three longer slat ports per side. These two longer barreled sizes also feature the name “TRACKER” on the flanks.

The brilliance of the 692 is the ability to change calibers by swapping 7-round cylinders. Caliber options are thus .38 Special +P, 357 Magnum and 9 mm Luger.

Regardless of configuration, the 692 revolvers share characteristic dimensions and features. For instance, the cylinder is smooth (or at least just notched) rather than fluted.

Moreover all six models feature the standout patented Taurus Ribber Grip. The name is a portmanteau for rubber and rib because it features a stack of rubber ribs that encircle the front and sides of the grip. This is brilliantly functional eye candy that does an excellent job of providing comfort and secure control of the gun’s recoil.

In front is a fixed front serrated ramp sight while in back is an adjustable rear sight that can be adjusted for elevation and windage simply using a flathead screwdriver. The curve of the external spurred hammer almost echoes the trigger’s curve. The guns come standard with fast reload enabling stellar clips.

Taurus 692s features a transfer bar safety. Thus the gun is designed not to discharge when dropped, etc. and should fire only when the trigger is actually pulled.
