The Taurus 942 8-round cylinder revolvers seem to be shrink-wrapped around .22 WMR ammo. These small frame revolvers come in 2.0” and 3.0” barrel models, stainless steel or alloy frames, and three color finishes: matte stainless, matte black or hard anodized black. All share the same black rubber grips.

These are easy to conceal double-action/single-action (DA/SA) revolvers that combine simple, effective design with easily managed recoil, accuracy, durability and reliability. The 942 Ultra-Light revolvers are only available in the 2.0” barrels. They take the design of the visually identical Taurus 942s but have an alloy frame instead of the stainless steel frame. Presto: the weight drops from 23.6 ounces to 17.8 ounces. The 3.0” barrel guns are only available with the stainless steel frames and weigh 25.0 ounces.

Regardless of frame type or other configurations, the Taurus 942s have a superb fit and finish.

There are five different ultra-light frame color choices: azure blue, bronze, burned orange, matte black, matte natural (think satin) and rouge. All are anodized, which applies the color in a thick hard coat finish that’s durable and long-lasting.

All 942 UL models share the same a 4.80” height and 1.41” width. The overall lengths are 6.55” and weigh 16 ounces for the alloy frames, which is just a pound. The 22-ounce frames come only in matte stainless and matte black.

In front is a fixed front serrated ramp sight while in back is a drift adjustable rear sight. The curve of the external spurred hammer almost echoes the trigger’s curve.

Taurus 942s features a transfer bar safety. Thus the gun is designed not to discharge when dropped, etc. and should fire only when the trigger is actually pulled.

Regardless of model, 942 revolvers share characteristic dimensions and features. For instance, the cylinders are fluted and except for one, all share the same soft rubber grip. It has two and a half finger recesses in front, horizontal ribbing in back, and diamond pattern raised side texturing.

The exception on the grips is that the all matte black model is available with Gray Cyclone VZ Operator II Grips. These aggressively textured and aggressively styled grips are made of tough G10 polymer and have alternating bands of light and dark gray that contour like a terrain map.
