The full-size Taurus 1911 8+1 .45 ACP / 9+1 9 mm Luger echoes its namesake classic and simultaneously surpasses it with a variety of color schemes and technologies destined to make this a cherished acquisition with an affordable price.

The Taurus 1911 semi-automatic series is actually a lineup of 10 guns. Nine are .45 ACP and one is a 9+1 9 mm Luger. All have so much in common. Let’s cover the shared traits. All use single-stack magazines to feed rounds into a 5.0” long barrel. Overall length is 8.5”, height is 5.5” and width is 1.5”. Weight, as befitting its hand-fitted hammer-forged slides, barrels and steel frames, is 42 ounces.

The design has a good-looking slide with front and rear diagonal grip serrations. On top, the Taurus 1911 features three-dot low-profile Novak Drift drift-adjustable dovetail sights at front and back. The gun has a long upward curved beavertail and a classic circular loop hammer. The grip ends in a square butt.

The single action only (SAO) gun has three safeties: a grip safety, a thumb safety at back and a firing pin block. The gun is set up for right-hand use. Thus the slide stop, thumb safety and magazine release are on the left.

The trigger is triple ported with lightening circles.

The single 9 mm model comes only in matte black. Except the capacity and caliber, it is generally the same as the .45 ACP models that lack the under-muzzle accessory rail, and its magazine fits flush inside the grip.

The polymer grip panels reach high up to just below the slide. The single 9 mm model and five of the nine .45 ACPs feature the classic M1911 grip double-diamond design with diamond-hatching. Their middles are blazed with Taurus’ charging bull head logo. The remaining four have fetching grips in designs that coordinate well with various models’ color schemes. The front and back of the grips have integrated hatching.

Two models have the under-recoil spring housing accessory rail. The rail has two slots. One model is all matte black, while the other is stainless steel. Both have the double-diamond grips.

The run through the other models is fairly straight forward. There are two other double-diamond grip models. One is stainless steel. It differs from the aforementioned one only in that it lacks the rail. Another is dual-tone. It has a stainless-steel trigger. It also has a two-tone slide that’s stainless steel on the flanks and matte black on the barrel vaulting and inside the diagonal grip serrations. This slide is then mated to a matte black grip.

Other attractive color choices include Desert Sand, Bronze, Mil-Spec Olive Drab Green, Tungsten Gray and Bronze Cerakote finishes of the slide and recoil spring housing. All are mated to matte black frames.

The Taurus 1911 semi-automatics are made in Brazil and imported by Taurus International Manufacturing, Inc., of Bainbridge, Georgia.
