The Taurus 856 6-round cylinder revolvers offer 18 small-frame 2.0” long barrel models. These are easy to conceal .38 Special +P double-action/single-action (DA/SA) revolvers that combine simple, effective design with easily managed recoil, accuracy, durability and reliability. Fit and finish are superb. Taurus 856s differ thanks to stainless steel or alloy frames, matte black or matte carbon finishes for the barrel and cylinder, a selection of anodized colors for the frame and a variety of black rubber grips.

Frame color choices include anodizing in azure blue, bronze, burned orange, matte black, matte stainless, matte natural (think satin) and rouge. Anodizing applies the color in a thick hard coat finish that’s durable and long-lasting.

Key dimensions: all 856 models share the same a 4.80” height and 1.41” width. The overall lengths are 6.55” and weights are just 22 ounces for the stainless steel versions (regardless of finish) or 16 ounces for the alloy frames, which is just a pound.

Regardless of model, 856 revolvers share characteristic dimensions and features. For instance, the cylinders are fluted and almost all share the same soft rubber grip. It has two and a half finger recesses in front, horizontal ribbing in back, and diamond pattern raised side texturing.

However, some exceptions come to mind on the grips. For instance, there is an all matte black version that has a Viridian red-laser grip that has a right-hand mounted red laser that’s atop the grip and emits light up to a mile away at night or 25 yards away in daylight conditions. It has a master on/off switch and is grip activated. It’s even adjustable for windage and elevation. Weight on this model rises a tad to 22.6 ounces.

Another all matte black model is available with Gray Cyclone VZ Operator II Grips. These aggressively textured and aggressively styled grips are made of tough G10 polymer and have alternating bands of light and dark gray that contour like a terrain map.

In front is a fixed front serrated ramp sight while in back is a non-adjustable integrated rear sight. The curve of the external spurred hammer almost echoes the trigger’s curve. The guns come standard with fast reload enabling stellar clips.
