The full-size Taurus G3 9x19mm Luger polymer frame striker-fired semi-automatic pistol has 11 different models that vary in capacity, color, sights and culminate in the G3 T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option). Capacity ranges from 10+1 to 17+1.

All 11 models include a Picatinny rail under the muzzle, a safety trigger, nice grip serrations and other intuitively placed recesses where you’ll want them. The hammerless design and various cuts and facets make G3s snag-free. But all are innovative, feature-rich with a good level of content, ergonomically designed and still very affordable, as seems to be the case with most Taurus guns.

Let’s start at the bottom of the range and then add features to reach the apex Taurus G3 T.O.R.O.

The base version is the 10-round Taurus G3 Tenifer Matte Black 9mm Luger Full Size. The barrel is 4.0” long. The gun’s overall length is 7.28”, width is 1.2” and overall height is 5.2”. These are harmonious proportions. The gun “looks” right. It weighs 24.83 ounces or just over 1.5 pounds.

The gun is single action. Coupled with the matte black polymer frame is a Tenifer-finished matte black steel slide and a matte stainless-steel barrel. The slide has forward leaning ovoid slide serrations at both front and back.

The crisp, clean operating trigger is factory-set to 6 pounds of pull pressure. In back at left, you’ve got thumb safety and a slide release. It also has a restrike feature. The front sight is fixed while the ramped rear sight is drift adjustable. It also has a loaded chamber indicator and a striker block that will prevent the gun from firing if it’s dropped.

The base model comes standard with a combat trigger guard with the requisite slightly concave front face. There is a gentle undercut at the back of the trigger guard and then an angled frontstrap. The backstrap has a mild palmswell. And the grip is stipple textured all around with nice accent swaths that break the texturing into panels.

Magazines fit into the magwell and then align flush with the grip heel. The gun comes new with two 10-round mags.

You can also get the same 10+1 base model with a matte stainless slide coupled to a matte black frame. It’s otherwise the same.

These same two-color combinations are also available in a 15+1 configuration. And the same two are available in 17+1 configuration. The 17+1 also adds a matte black slide plus tan frame, a matte black slide with a gray frame and a matte black slide with a great looking olive drab green frame.

Finally, there are two steel sight SKUs. Both are 17+1 capacity and black. One has a fixed white dot steel front sight and an all-black serrated drift adjustable steel rear sight. And at the top of the G3 lineup is the G3 T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option). It’s like the steel sight version just described but has a slide cut out for red dot optics mounting plates. It comes with four red-dot optic plates so there’s an excellent chance you’ll be ready to go without having to purchase anything other than the red-dot optic sight.
