The Taurus TH9 Compact combines excellent Taurus attributes into a compact hammer-fired 17+1 capacity single-action/double-action (SA/DA) semi-automatic 9 mm Luger. It’s a loaded content gun with a polymer frame, finger grooves along the front grip and a single-slot under-muzzle Picatinny rail. There are seven TH9 Compact models. All have matte black slides. Two have matte black frames and differ with one having an under muzzle laser and one not having it. The other five have different colored frames outlined below.

The Taurus TH9 Compact shares its fundamental architecture and goodness with its full-size TH9 big brother. The main differences are its size and the lack of interchangeable backstraps, three finger grooves instead of four. Surprisingly, its capacity matches that of its big brother.

Currently the TH9 Compact has six color choices. All have a matte black slide. The frame colors are: gray, olive drab, cyan, burgundy, matte black and tan. The all-matte black gun can be had with a bright red Viridian C5 Series laser attached to the aforementioned Picatinny rail. The compact C5 is windage and elevation adjustable with multiple modes of operation.

Let’s cover some key metrics. Literally central to the gun is its 3.54” long barrel. Wrapped around that are the slide and frame and other bits that give it a 5.16” height, 1.30” width and 6.85” overall length. Weight is 25.0 ounces. The gun has an imposing 17-round capacity thanks to its double-stack magazines.

TH9s have white 3-dot sights dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is a beautifully ramped Novak drift adjustable type. The slide lacks grip serrations in front, but it has nice rounded-bottom ones in back.

Integrated below the recoil spring housing is a two-slot MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail to mount lasers, etc.

The frame has some nice finger recesses on each side. One is above the forward-face of the trigger guard. Taurus calls this one the Taurus Memory Pad for improved intuitive hand placement and reassurance that’s key under pressure. Another recess is atop each side of the grip. The grip mixes smooth surfaces with aggressive textured patches. It’s a good look, and it functions well providing the right grip when you need it. The TH9 also has big patch textured grip panels for great control.

What’s particularly nice are the safety features. These include a visual loaded chamber indicator, thumb safety and a firing pin block safety. The 17+1 Taurus Compact TH9 semi-automatics are Made in Brazil and imported into the US by Taurus USA of Bainbridge, Georgia.
