The Uberti 1873 Cattleman is a stellar .45 Colt, .357 Mag and .44 Mag 6-shot single-action only (SAO) revolver. Its outstanding traits are its Made in Italy craftsmanship, faithful replication of the Colt 1873 and sure, the Uberti name sounds exotic and is fun to say! You have 20 to 50 different Cattleman models/variants covering Cattleman Charcoal Blue (4 variants), Cattleman Nickel (3), Cattleman Stainless (2), Cody (2), Chisholm (1), Engraved Cattleman (2), Frisco (1), Desperado (1), Hombre (2), Old West (1) and beefed-up Callahan (1).

Uberti makes these guns per the patent of the famed Colt 1873 Peacemaker 6-shot single-action revolver. The original patents expired decades ago permitting replicas such as these Ubertis, but for both nostalgia and proper attribution, Uberti even stamps/molds the original 1870’s patent dates directly onto the receiver!

Except where noted, these guns span three main sizes built around 4.75”, 5.5” and 7.5” barrels measuring 10.25”, 11.0” and 13” and weighing 2.2 pounds, 2.3 pounds and 2.6 pounds respectively, which is much lighter than the original Colt 45s. All are .45 Colts except the 357 Mag Hombre and the .44 Mag Callahan, which we’ll get to below.

The Uberti 1873s feature single-piece walnut grips wrapped around their backstraps. They also feature a fluted cylinder, 6-groove RH twist barrel, four-position hammer used for cocking, loading/unloading, etc. Okay, with those commonalities settled, let’s skim some models for differences:

The most striking might be the four Cattleman Charcoal Blue variants. They swathe a blue finish on the shark-fin front sight, barrel, cylinder, backstrap, trigger guard and trigger. These feature a marbleized case-hardened receiver and striking chamfered walnut grip. Casehardened steel involves infusing carbon or nitrogen to the exterior, thereby making it harder than the interior.

The Cattleman Nickel is a mass of nickel-plated steel that connects to the aforementioned walnut grip. Cattleman Stainless is the same but with stainless-steel! The Cody is nickel-plated steel but with synthetic ivory grips. The Engraved Cattleman has epically beautiful stainless-steel combined with the walnut grip, but the stainless-steel is further elevated by engraving on the barrel, cylinder and frame.

The 357 Mag Hombre has a 4.75” barrel, overall 10.25” length and weighs in at 2.2 pounds. The .44 Mag 6.5” Callahan measures 11.5” overall and weighs 2.6 pounds. Both models feature matte bluing across the steel coupled to a brass backstrap and brass trigger guard (and the usual one-piece walnut grip).

If you’re looking for a great Colt 1873 Peacemaker 6-shot single-action revolver replica, then Uberti’s 1873 Cattleman gives you plenty of choices in .45 Colt, .357 Mag and .44 Mag!
