The single-stack Walther PPS M2 9 mm x 19 semi-automatic concealed carry pistol is a second-generation upgrade of the proven original PPS that was first designed for German police. This blunt-nosed striker-fired double-action gun accommodates 6-round flush fitting magazines as well as 7 and 8-round extended magazines via a pinky rest. All three magazines have counting holes. Few other such guns offer three different magazine capacities like this. The PPS M2 also has a .40 S&W model with 5, 6 and 7-round magazines.

Key dimensions? The polygon rifled barrel is 3.2” long, height is 4.3”, width is only .9” and overall length is 6.3”. Finally, the gun weighs 1.3 pounds. The 9 mm barrel has a 1 to 10” RH twist while the .40 S&W’s has a 1 to 16” RH twist.

The PPS M2’s single-stack architecture permits its remarkably slim grip, making it more comfortable for smaller hands. The polymer frame lowers weight compared to similar steel-framed models making such guns far more comfortable to carry around all day. That said, it has an internal steel chassis with four rails that provide structural rigidity and thus improved accuracy.

This concealed carry comes standard with three phosphorescent white dot steel sights atop the slide. The sight radius between the two low-profile sights is 5.4”. At back, a tactile striker indicator protrudes from the slide end cap. As this is a concealed carry gun, it lacks a Picatinny rail under the recoil spring housing.

The rear sight can be adjusted for windage. The front sight can’t be adjusted, but elevation adjustments can be made by swapping front sights out with other front sights. Each one has a specific height denoted by a number. Also up on the slide is a loaded chamber viewport.

The first-generation PPS introduced the world to single-stack polymer concealed carry pistols. It was noted for its ergonomics, limited recoil and overall balance between factors such as portability, price, weight, functionality and quality.

Compared to the first-generation PPS, this second generation PPS M2, which came to market in 2016, adds a more comfortable grip with a different texture pattern, different contours and front slide serrations. The PPS M2 also has a more refined trigger with a 6.0 pound trigger pull. Such factors combine with other aspects of the gun’s design to catalyze accuracy.

The original PPS had a rather ingenious magazine release flap integrated into the bottom of the trigger guard. Responding to consumer preferences, it has been replaced with a more traditional magazine release button on grip where it is most such pistols. The only downside to this is this makes the PPS M2’s magazines incompatible with original PPS magazines.

The trigger guard is roomy and has a deep undercut for better ergonomics and better grip. The pistol grip has two subtle finger recesses along the front, a thick palmswell at back and aggressive quasi-diamond plate texturing all around. The extended magazines extend the grip with an additional finger recess in front.

This gun is set up for right-hand shooters: the magazine release is not reversible. Both it and the slide release are on the PPS M2’s left-hand side. The take down catch is on both sides, and unusually, is diagonal.
