The upscale Weatherby Mark V Camilla Ultra Lightweight centerfire bolt-action rifle is a distinctly stylish, breathtakingly beautiful, lightweight rifle that’s easy to carry for long distances into the back country, and still be accurate and reliable when you need it.

Weatherby, Inc. was founded in 1945 in California by Roy E. Weatherby. This family business is now in its third generation, and the company headquarters has since shifted to Sheridan, Wyoming, just south of the shared Wyoming-Montana border in the heart of the great West. Obviously, this makes the location a fantastic place to trial test Weatherby’s guns for accuracy, ruggedness and actual real-world usage.

That this rifle is named in honor of Roy Weatherby’s wife Camilla might have given the following away already, but the Mark V Camilla was designed with extensive input from women and is optimized for them.

As such, the Camilla has a smaller stock for women’s statures. But rather than taking a standard gun stock and simply shrinking it, this ergonomic graphite black stock was thoughtfully designed from the outset for women’s proportions. To wit, the fore stock is more slender than usual, the buttstock has a negative slope for more comfort against women’s shoulders, the cheek piece accommodates women’s longer necks, and the gun has 13” shortened length of pull.

The Weatherby Mark V Camilla Ultra Lightweight rifle abounds with features that are comfort-enhancing, eye-catching and most functional. The elegant fluted barrel is two tone stainless steel with graphite black Cerakote. Fluting goes back to architecture and engineering. The ancient Greeks found that fluting their temple columns meant they could keep the outer diameter of a column where bigger generally meant more stability and strength. But carving flutings into the columns reduced weight and enhanced portability. Thus it is with the Camilla’s barrel. Similarly, even the spiral bolt is fluted.

Weatherbys are noted for their guaranteed accuracy. And part of this is the aforementioned barrel, but it’s also things like the quality of the hand-laid Monte Carlo matte fiberglass stock and the adjustable zero-creep Mark V Field Trigger by TriggerTech that can be set for consistent pulls of 2.5 to 5 pounds. And naturally, the gun is designed around Weatherby’s famous Mark V high-performance screw breech action that was designed for smooth operation, strength and safety.

The Mark V Camilla’s Accubrake ST muzzle perforations not only look stunning but also reduce recoil up to 53 percent. The bolt only travels 54 degrees, permitting faster follow-up shots and leaving more clearance between the scope and bolt. Front and rear swivel studs make the Camilla easy to carry.

The gun is designed for six different types of ammunition. With 22” barrels and 43.25” overall lengths, we have the .243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmore and 6 mm Creedmore. With 24” barrels and 45.25” overall length are the .240 Weatherby Magnum, .280 Ackley Improved and 6.5 Weatherby RPM (Rebated Precision Magnum). Other than the 3+1 mag 6.5 Creedmore, the rest have 4+1 magazine capacities. All six variants weigh either 5.8 or 5.9 pounds.
