Wilson Combat Recon Tactical combines lightweight looks in an ultra-modern high-tech AR-type semi-automatic wrapped around a 16” match-quality fluted barrel. The Recon Tactical measures only 33” overall and weighs about 7 pounds depending on barrel, etc.

This Wilson Combat arm has a relatively short 16” matte bead-blasted Type 416R stainless steel barrel and correspondingly short overall length. It has a neat dozen calibers: .204 Ruger, 224 Valkyrie, .300 AAC Blackout, .458 SOCOM, 5.56 NATO, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x40mm Wilson Tactical, 300 HAM'R, 350 Legend, .375 SOCOM and, finally, .450 Bushmaster.

The handguard is a thing of functional beauty, and it’s made in-house by Wilson Combat. It has a raised roof octagonal profile, full-length Picatinny rail and plenty of M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, just like one would expect in this class.

The raised roof under the Picatinny rail hides the mid-length (carbine length) gas system and the low-profile gas block. But the fluted barrel housed partially within is perhaps most eye-catching and gives it a mini-Gatling gun appearance. The long QComp birdcage flash suppressor threaded on the front adds more to the high-tech effect. It also comes with a small five-slot Picatinny rail that can be positioned pretty much anywhere on the handguard.

The long Picatinny rail atop the M-LOK handguard and upper receiver gives you plenty of room for sights such as a scope, spring-loaded flip up front and rear sights or both.

At back is an A-frame skeletonized Rogers/Wilson Super-Stoc stock. It has a dorsal sling loop, semi-protected quick-release lever and removable butt pad. The stock has a nice cam-lock lever right by the buffer tube sleeve that prevents any play or wobble and helps guard against accidentally changing settings by bumping the quick-release lever.

The Recon Tactical’s semi-compact dimensions and the adherence to lightweight componentry make it maneuverable and easy to use in a restricted environment.

The Recon Tactical features the radial sunburst pattern Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) pistol grip. Wilson Combat has uses it for good reason and has done so on other guns such as its EDC X9 semi-automatic 1911. It’s versatile and fetching. Moreover, the frontstrap has horizontal serration surfacing and the back includes an integrated beavertail and a storage compartment accessed via a water-resistant hinged trap door in the bottom.

The Wilson Combat Tactical trigger guard has a bend at the bottom. Framed within is the much appreciated Wilson Combat M2 two-stage trigger.

The magazine is a curved box that shoves easily into the flared magwell. Wilson Combat builds the capable Recon Tactical AR in Berryville, Arkansas, making these guns Made in USA.
