What a Combo! Smith & Wesson M&P15 Axe Rifle & Gemtech Abyss 5.56 [Video]

The Smith & Wesson M&P15 Axe Rifle & Gemtech Abyss 5.56 Make a Great Combo!

Anthony Proto with Gemtech with a lot of new and exciting products to show. Starting off, Gemtech was acquired by Smith & Wesson and a bit of this is a collaboration and we’re going to end with a crescendo of this brand-new suppressor, the Gemtech Abyss 5.56, on the end of the gun. The brand-new M&P15 Axe rifle is fully ambidextrous and includes our new Gemtech GVAC upper receiver group, with some suppressor enhancement technologies that essentially make every suppressor a reduced back pressure suppressor. It has a reimagined barrel profile to shift weight towards the rifle to maintain balance when you have a suppressor. The bolt carrier group has some advancements that aid in good cycling when the rifle gets more foul due to constant suppressor use. The Gemtech Abyss 5.56 is our best 5.56. It uses our brand-new elite taper mount system; tapers keep the suppressor centered on the barrel and resists carbon lockup. It creates a gas seal and stops fouling from getting into these locked recesses.

The Abyss 5.56 is an all-new reduced back pressure design and comes with everything you need to mount to your rifle right out of the box. The Abyss 5.56 really excels in durability, it is a durability focused can with great muzzle flash reduction from first shot to the last. We have about five patents in this right now and we’re applying for one more. We left no stone unturned with this design. You get phenomenal muzzle flash reduction with great sound reduction, around about 135 dBC. That’s the scale that we use for sound measurement. It’s very accurate for measuring between 130 and 175 decibels which is right where we play when we talk about suppressing centerfire rifle. It has a brand-new GM-S1 series of suppressor end caps that also helps reduce flash mitigation.

Each baffle, of the Abyss 5.56 suppressor, does not sit completely flush with the wall. We have channels that loop around the inside of the suppressor equivalent to about 14 times the length of the suppressor and what that does is it channels gas out, sucks it out in front of the can, and we use it for flash mitigation. We take all that gas that will be lingering in here in a traditional baffled suppressor, we move it outside the suppressor and use it to choke out the environment right in front of the can which prevents combustion of the atmosphere right in front of the suppressor. We take blowback and we use it for flash mitigation. Again, it’s very, very durable. And the ETM system is an extremely compact, one hand operation and when mounted this only adds four and a quarter inch at the end of your barrel, so you get full size signature reduction performance with the added length of a compact suppressor so you kind of get to make your cake and eat it too.
