K98k Mauser Service Rifle; March-April 1945 Mauser Oberndorf Production/Wehrmacht Issue; 8mm Mauser

Exceptional example of a rare, svw45-coded K98k Mauser...this last-ditch rifle was manufactured by Oberndorf in the final weeks of the Second World War. Among the rarest of rifles for the Mauser enthusiast to source, the svw45 code replaced byf45 in the Spring of 1945 and total production of rifles so marked is estimated to be less than 13,000(per Steves & Karem). A quintessential Kriegsmodell Mauser, features include a late-war stock with no provision for cleaning rod or bayonet, the bands being secured by simple wood screws, and the deletion of the takedown washer from the buttstock. Correctly, few of the parts are numbered, but all are matching, the various Waffenamts and view marks are all WaA135 or Eagle/135 for Oberndorf, the Eagle/Swaztikas are unmarred, and the lack of an import mark identify this weapon as a fine candidate for having been brought back by a GI returning from the war. A superb example of a rare K98, this rifle, in condition that would be near impossible to improve upon, represents a both a sound investment and a worthy addition to the most discriminating German arms collection.

Excellent approaching near mint, the gun has seen no refinish or restoration and displays little in the way of field or storage wear. Phosphate on metal is overall 96-97% with only mild operational and edge wear present-there is no rust or pitting. Markings are perfectly preserved, and generally well-struck, with the exception of the barrel acceptance(Eagle/Swaztika) mark, which was struck with a weak die. Matching numbers are present on the cocking piece, shroud, bolt handle and receiver. Furniture is unmarked and in excellent condition, having only light handling marks and no cracks, chips or repairs. Mechanically excellent with brisk action, the headspace checks and the bore is virtually mint-bright with crisp, unfaded rifling and no rust, frost, or oxidation build up.
