Here is a recently identified Frankford Arsenal experimental cartridge from the mid-1960’s. See Hackley, Woodin & Scranton Volume 3. FA contracted for special cases from Remington, similar to the .221 Fireball, but having JUST the headstamp “R-P”. Hand labeled boxes refer to them as “Cal. .222 HIGH VELOCITY” and “.222 SHORT MAGNUM”. Various lightweight bullets were loaded and tested by FA but to what end we don’t yet know as the whole project was classified. Available is a specimen loaded with a lightweight hollow point aluminum core bullet. A cutaway of the round is pictured next to it but is not for sale. Similar to the round used in the experimental Colt IMP stockless rifle developed for the Air Force, but it is a unique round for this Frankford Arsenal experiment. Thanks for looking, and please email us with any questions PRIOR to bidding. Winning bidder pays $15 shipping (UPS ground). Post Office money order assures quick shipping; other checks are accepted, but must clear. Email us by clicking on the blue “rampant1" above if you’d like to get our current list of Colt memorabilia, Colt Experimental Ammunition or Worldwide .223 (5.56mm) single specimens (mostly Viet Nam era and earlier).
