(MAKE AN OFFER) S149Z, Old well made model of a Pennsylvania coal car featuring a unique dumping gate mechanism which the maker invented and used to seek a patent for it. His name was Charles Stickler and it actually works. Also included is Charlies mining helmet. The car is mounted on railroad wheels and the whole thing is made of heavy metal and wood parts that you can see were scavenged from many scrap and junk heaps found on the coal lands of every mine. Using his skill and hand tools, plus imagination, this coal car is the result. It's 11" long x 7.25" high x 7.25" wide. Timber exterior is lined with good steel, designed with 2 tripping legs underneath near the front wheels, which would strike the tipple barrier at the end of the track, which automatically pushes a system of right and left steel arms to release the hinged door at that end. The tipple picks up the rear end of the car and the coal can dump out freely into waiting cars or trucks below the tipple. When the empty car is levelled and rolled away the pressure of the arms is released and the closed gate locks into place for the next load. Fascinating old model of how they used to do it...the way that helped build a nation. All original and complete, ship weight is 13 pounds.
