Up for auction is a Brazilian Modelo 1 Mosquetaos of 1873 (aka carbine of 1873). It was sent back to Belgium, along with other rifles and carbines, to be rebarreled to 7mm Mauser. They were then returned to Brazil for use. Brazil had adopted a Mauser rifle chambered for 7mm Mauser and the Comblains were to be used for 2nd line troops or police weapons. These carbines are seldom seen in any condition, let alone this nice. This example, with the exception of the missing front sight, is in great shape,. It is a single shot rifle. and has an interesting dropping-block action. Numbers on the receiver and mechanism are matching. The wood is in remarkably good condition for a rifle 135 years old. Sold as a collector’s item only.
