The Marlin 80 and Marlin 80 DL .22 LR/.22 L bolt-action repeating rifle had a production run several decades until 1971. The gun had a 22” and 24” barrel length options. Overall length was correspondingly 41” or 43”. The gun came with either a drift-adjustable rear sight or a full adjustable for windage and elevation peep sight. In front, the Marlin 80s had a hooded front ramp sight.

This is a classically styled gun. If you were designing a nostalgia gun from your imagination, it might look a lot like the Marlin 80. The glossy finished Monte Carlo comb stock effortlessly flows from its forend to the butt with a curved grip in between. The American walnut stock has no hatching and there are no pennants. The safety is in easy reach on the right hand side. The breech bolt has a curved bolt arm that ends in a spherical bolt knob.

The trigger guard and other metal components are blued. The trigger guard is the classic near-oval tear drop with a slope along the front face. There are swivel sling mounts in both front and back. In back is a buttplate spacer and then the buttplate that’s screwed into place.

From about the mid-1950s, Marlin 80s featured the company’s patented microgrooved barrels that improved accuracy and decreased barrel fouling.

The Marlin 80 shipped new with a 7-round detachable magazine.

Marlin was located in North Haven, Connecticut. These guns were Made in USA. Marlin started making guns in the 1870s, so the name has been around about 150 years. The company was eventually acquired by Remington in 2008. North Haven production was shuttered in the 2000s. When that company went bankrupt in 2020, Sturm, Ruger & Co. acquired Marlin and added it to their portfolio. Marlin’s headquarters are now in Madison, North Carolina.
