Remington 1100 History & Specs

Remington 1100 shotguns are gas operated and a popular choice among sport shooters. The Remington 1100 distinguished itself early on as one of the first semi-automatic shotguns to significantly reduce recoil while remaining lightweight and reliable. Designed to replace Remington models 58 and 878, the Remington 1100 was introduced in 1963. Until then, many gas operated shotguns retained vestiges of the long recoil action inherent in John Browning's original design.

The Remington 1100 is available today in 12, 20 and 28 gauges as well as .410 bore. This shotgun is credited with establishing the era of the reliable, highly successful gas operated auto loading shotguns. In fact the Remington 1100 remains one of the best-selling semi-automatic shotguns in US history. Additionally, it set the semi-automatic shotgun record for most shells fired sans cleaning, malfunction or parts breaking in 1978 at 24,000 rounds.
